I HAVE AN OLYMPIA ONE THAT'S 27 YEARS OLD AND HAVE ONLY HAD TO REPLACE MINOR PARTS. IT'S A SHAME WHAT ELECTROLUX HAS DONE TO THEIR ONCE EXCELLENT VACS.
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO POP OFF THE BACK OF THE CANISTER. WHAT IT WOULD SIT ON IF UP ENDED. THE CORD WINDER IS A SELF CONTAINED UNIT THAT IS ATTACHED BY A COUPLE WIRES TO THE MOTOR. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHERE THE WIRES GO WHEN YOU REPLACE THE UNIT. (TAKE PICS) NOW YOU MAY HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE UNIT IF YOU CAN'T DISASSEMBLE THE WINDER. IF IT'S A CASE WHERE THE CORD WON'T GO BACK INTO THE MACHINE BECAUSE YOU PULLED IT OUT TOO FAR, TRY GENTLY PULLING AND LETTING GO A COUPLE TIMES THAT USUALLY WORKS. GOOD LUCK...AND KEEP THAT CLASSIC RUNNING!
