Hi Phil,
I had the same problem. The switch unit is fastened in the in the side of the handle by 1 screw which is underneath the On/Off Button. Getting the button out is dam tricky. The button just pushes into the body of the switch unit, but is then held 'captive' by a hook that is integrel to the button.
On the 'body side' of the button you will see a very small slot or keyway, you have to get something down there to push the 'hook' inwards and release it from the body of the switch housing. Very tricky and fiddly. Needs lots and lots of patience.
When you get the button out, remove the screw and lift the switch unit out, BUT make very special note of how the wires to the switch and the cable are arranged. Getting this unit back in can be very difficult if you don't. If you have a digital camera I advise you take photos.
The hard part is getting the button out, good luck!
