oil leaks into water?

Ford Mondeo Turbo Deisel 1993, After being told that my car was getting hot after it was used, I went later to put water in, but the water was full, and it had oil in it, what could it be please?
Andrew Mckenna, April 2007
most likely the head gasket. My car was fine until i noticed the coolant and oil lights come on briefly. Checked oil and it had none although only filled up a week ago so checked water and didnt have much...put antifreeze in and out came all this oil mixed up. Knew it was head gasket then. Just had my car back today...cost £246.00. Not bad considerin m8s cost £500.00. Good luck.

HEAD GASKET SORRY MATE

MR ROVER, April 2007
I dont know if it has an oil cooler, and il look for the mayanase colour, thanks for all your help. Andy.

There are two other checks that you can make for a blown head gasket. Remove the oil filler cap and look inside the rocker box. If you see dirty yellow 'mayonnaise' that indicates a head gasket problem. As watching the water system WHEN THE CAR IS COLD and see if it has exhaust gas puffing through it.

does it have an oil cooler-this is another way oil can get into water

Almost certainly the head gasket! Over heating and the transfer of oil into the water ways suggest this.
