I checked the points and cond.how do I check the magneto coil, can I ohm it out, and how ,what ohms should I get and across what wires

What would make 3.5 mower idle up and down? It seems to be running rich.

how did you check the points, did you rotate till top of piston was all the way up for the gap on it
