My drivers side window is not working?

The drivers side window on my 1996 Ford Escort has stopped working yet my passenger side is fine. When i push the black connector into the switch it starts working. Does anyone know what is exactly wrong?

Hi K, I had the same problem, my boot also wouldn't open, and when the passenger side window stopped working we took it to an electrician. After the door panel was removed to check the wiring.... we eventually discovered that it was the switch in the centre console. We took it apart and the copper (?) strip, which is supposed to connect when depressed, was broken. It could also be that it has dirt embedded in it, which will prevent a positive connection. Hope this helps.

im guessing your windows are electric, if so it may be a bad connection as u describe pushing the black connector in to the switch, suggests taking apart and reconnect firmly or just go to the scrap yard and get another switch may be try the passenger switch on the drivers side may be universal or borrow a friends who has the same spec. it is most annoying not be able to wind the drivers window down, not only that u can,t use hand signals, so it is an important safety measure to have ur drivers window operating properly. mr f.
