the engine starts and runs fine but goin along it misses and you get a cloud of grey smoke come out of the exhaust for about 5 seconds then clears and its fine again. what could be wrong and how do i fix it?

i have the same car i have fuel injection and it has a tendency to put in too much fuel which sometimes causes the cloud of smoke when it gets rid of the excess but dont scrap the car as they are reliable little things and provided you look after it the car will go and go servicing is a sensible option alot you can do yourself just look in your owners manual good luck

Have you changed the oil regularly? how about service? have the spark plugs been renewed? distributor cap changed etc? what bout the condition of the High tension leads?
sometimes short journeys can clog up the carburetta, you can try using some Redex to clear the jets when you give it a good run?
I would service the car as it can be false economy if one does not do so.
