how can I fix my craftsman 358.795571 trimmer?

it will run for 5to 10 seconds then dies then won't start again for about 2.5 hours then does the same thing

It sounds as though you have dirt or gunge in your carburettor.
You should disassemble the carb and soak it in clean gasoline / petrol. this will dissolve any leftover oil deposits from last season. Then blow through it to check there is no dirt inside either. Reassemble you r carb and it will let fuel through at the correct rate and not cut out in use. Drain your carb at the end of the season and it should work perfectly next time you need it.

Didn't realize that there were 2 Allen head bolts that attach the head to the cylinder: Remove top cover (4 bolts under sticker on top + one in front), remove 2 bolts from carb, spark plug, lossen then retorque 2 bolts thru access holes in head. Problem solved, at least for me.

Same problem: I took it completely apart, repaired fuel line in tank, new plug. wrapped wiring inside of cover (in case it was grounding out), blew air through carb ports, have positive fuel feed.
Had it 5 yrs. Only thing left is to try $25 ignition module or take it somewhere. Sorry no help.
