I was told that I could use a paper clip to manually open it. So I did and it worked. However, once I put a new CD in it and pushed it to shut, it still didn't. I had to put it all the way shut. Then it didn't read the disc. I assume something has broken or gone out. Do I need to take it to a shop?

There are no user serviceable parts, so it's cheaper to replace it.
