How do I fix the power steering on my Seat Alhambra TDi?

My R-reg Seat Alhambra has developed an intermittent problem. When it is washed the power steering will sometimes fail. Is this common and if so what is the solution?

when it,s washed water sometimes gets on the belt causing it to slip, don,t squirt the hosepipe through the rad.
