shouldn't leave the top up on copier because it can ruin scanner?

I was told by a rep. that we shouldn't leave the top up on the copier when not in use as this will skew the scanner. Is this true? Anything else we should be aware of?

It wont hurt the scanner but if it is an old analoge copier it can let light down to the drum and damage it over time. Digital ones do not have this problem but it is best to shut the lid as strong sunlight may cause a problem to scanner components/ CCD's etc.

It won't hurt the copier but it will allow dust and dirt to accumulate on the glass and that hurts the image quality. Clean the glass frequently to remove dirt and the occasional glob of correction fluid.
