slip belt over brush roller and put its ends into the 2 brackets of the baseplate (thick bearing into large bracket, small bearing into small bracket). make sure the heads of the adjuster screws face downwards toward the baseplate. then flip baseplate up and shut onto nozzle opening (will snap into place). check that it is firmly seated all around the rim, to give a good seal. reseat red vinyl bumper again.
now turn the belt lifter handle in front of the nozzle in order to catch the belt upwards (check suction port in back of the nozzle.)
once the belt is tightened up, you can reattach the nozzle to the motor. now lower the belt by turning the belt lifter handle again: the belt will slip down onto the motor shaft and the machine is ready for work.
check for correct height of the bristles: facing the nozzle from the side, peep over the baseplate: bristles should point out of the baseplate about the thickness of a match. if you cannot see the bristles from the side, there is no carpet grooming: then readjust those 2 srews at the bearing ends of the brush roll.
opposite case: if they point out considerably more than 1 or 2 mm (1/16th of an inch), it won't increase cleaning but only wear off the bristles too fast or will put unnecessary strain on the belt.
hope this helps. good luck!
