Vauxhall Vectra wont start Engine management light on?

My Vectra is a 2.2 LS petrol (ecotec) 2001 Automatic....

During driving home my car changed down a gear to get over the crest of a hill and then it jumped into nuetral and the EM light displaid. At that moment i lost all accelleration and power steering. After coasting to a stop i was unable to restart the engine. It turns over but no firing as there appears to be no fuel. Yes i do have fuel in the tank and you can hear the fuel pump kick in when turn on the ignition. To be honest i am an electronics engineer not a mechanic .... does anyone have any ideas.

Turned out to be a snapped timing chain.. Lots of money..

Phoned Vauxhall customer services and given a case number might be covered under a Factory recall .. Hope so or it's 1400 pounds to fix.

Tried the relay tweak but no avail... still was worth a try. Thanks anyway. Engine turned over for a few seconds then a missfire from the engine bay and what looked like a fuel cloud explelled from lower right engine ( when viewed from front of car ) not a good sign but a new one all the same.

thanks i will try that in the morning .. Update will follow shortly. Had cam sensor suggested to me already from a friend but wasnt any use to me as i am unsure where that is anyway.

Will try relay first.

Try the fuel pump relay.

Although you say you can hear the fuel pump turning over my 1.8 vectra (ecotec manual) had starting problems which turned out to be the fuel pump relay because when the fuel pipe was disconnected after the pump no fuel came through. On mine it is located in the fuse box behind the battery where there are 3 relays in a compartment, might be number 11 or 12.

To check if it is just give the relays in there a whack with a screwdriver and it should unlatch them if stuck on and the car will start instantly. A new one is £14 from vauxhall.

Note - I also changed the crank and cam sensors but that didn't fix it!!!!
