my zafira 16 club is is having problems with itermittent misfiring coupled with the emissions warning light coming on.the main dealers can't fix it .They have tried replacing the coil pack, ecu, egr valve etc but to no avail. Also my catylitic converter burnt out (expensive).Would a fuel cleaner work?

Hi guys I have petrol flooding into cly 1. With all the plugs out and Turing the engine over when I take the electrical plug off the injector it stops flooding. Is this a problem with the ECU telling the injector to stay open .

I have changed my coil pack on my vauxhall zafira 1.6 but I don't think I put the lead back in correctly, it started then cut out. Now it won't start at all, it's like I've blown a fuse but I can't find a relevant fuse or do you think I could of damaged the cable

The 1600 Zafira that I’m driving first had a problem on the tappet cover (breather valve) and I had to replace it (at 105 000km) as it “may cause extensive damage” albeit a technician.

5000km later the Oxygen sensor (pre-catalyc) was found faulty – replaced it
Anotjher 2 000k’s later the second sensor (post catalyc) was indicated on a regular diagnostics as faulty after the engine management light came on. To add to this, the car started to misfire, and the coilpack was apparently also faulty as it was not giving any spark on no 4. I replaced the 2nd sensor as well as the coilpack. Now, after some 100kms driving, the misfire is back and no 1 at the coilpack is not giving any spark! If I leave the car for 6-7 hrs and drive it again, it runs smooth if driven continuously – the moment I switch it off and restart, it misfires again! A second opinion suggested I have the ECU tested/repaired/replaced! What more

Misfire when warm..

Vauxhall have now replaced ECU, throttle body, fixed an oil leak, replaced camshaft bearings, roller bearing, cambelt, charged me £1500 quid and I've still got the fault. Just happens less frequently. vehicle has over 140,000 miles...and was running 100% until the fault appeared out of the blue.

had a 07 zafira towed in to our place today only done 37k customer said it has had an a intermittent misfire but never had symptoms when road tested with us. towed in as none runner and when i stripped it down and found no. 4 inlet valve stuck in the fully open position and bent.timing and belt both spot on and strange how the other inlet valve in the same cylinder isnt bent and works fine.sending head away tmoz to be repaired but to me looks like the valve has stuck open causing damage.

I am having a similar problem with my 2002 1.6 astra, missfiring on 2 and 3

This for me happens when i am on the motorway doing say 70mph, any ideas on this one?

astramark, February 2010
Hi Ive changed the EGR Valve at the cost of £90 and no change, I changed all the plugs No 4 was blacker than the rest, I had the cat checked and it was ok, its been on a snap on diagnostic and cleared the codes but none returned after driving it, even with the misfire, Ive been told the brake light switch is linked to the ECU and to check that the switch has not come loose,

Keith, January 2010
i own a 1.8 that had the same problem. every now and then a misfire on no3. took it to a mate with a code reader. and nothing. he found the problem though, faulty fuel gauge sender unit. it was telling ecu i was almost out of fuel (the misfire was a warning). vauhxall apparently know about this. one dealer wanted £650 for a new ecu. in the end it cost me £40 and a few beers for a good mate.

dusty, January 2010
i recently had a misfire took it to my local vauxhall dealership who done a diagnostic check for the price of£75 they told me i had a sticking valve on cylinder 3 and it would cost me £720 to get repaired.

mark, January 2010
have got same problem and tried all known remedies.... what i did find though was a split wire inside the plug that fits to the coil pack since fixing the wire i've had no problem but the original misfire was intermittant...... we'll have to wait and see....!!!!!

I had this misfire for 18 months with no warning lights then i got a warning light saying exhaust emissions were too high we changed the EGR valve which recirculates exhaust gasses at a cost of £71.00 and i can tell you the car has never been so nice to drive this will fix your problem!!.Vauxhall could not find the fault as it wasn't recorded on the on board computer, but i can assure you this will fix your problem.

This is how I solved my problem...
THE PROBLEM...my 1.6 2003 zafira was starting ok then 1/4 mile down the road it would start misfiring in cylinder 4 diagnostic simply said misfire in cylinder 4(which I already knew)
WHAT I TRIED...researched for hrs on net, replaced coil pack, fuel treatment(for sticking valves),engine flush and service, injectors removed and tested, compression test and maybe a few other things.
THE SOLUTION...I suggested to one mechanic that 'as it worked fine on start up and only starts misfiring shortly after' could there be a build up of exhaust fumes caused by a blocked exhaust,he thought it unlikely but said the cat would sometimes clog up in cars which are used for short journeys(as mine was) and told me to try "cataclean"
I tried it and drove the car approx 8 miles at high revs and it worked.

I tried a fuel cleaner which seemed to work ,but as the problem is intermittent,I can't be sure..One day the engine is dying, and the next day it is running absolutely fine! This leads me to suspect that some conponent is sticking ,as opposed to failing. At the moment the car is lumpy on tickover and stalling when I slow down at junctions and roundabouts. Before shelling out for expensive parts try having appropiate conponents inspected and cleaned. One previous poster suggested that the geiger valve spring can sometimes stick causing tickover problems.

i am having same problems have had egr valve ecu lambda sensor all replaced dealer saying could be sticking valves.cannot see that i changed my oil and put in castrol magnatec oil and also fuel cleaner this cured it for a while then they did service and put there oil in and after 2 weeks it returned i put a slick 50 into it and also keep putting fuel cleaner in seems to work but had alot of trouble with my dealer would go to a indepenant garage to get it checked i am.
