PEERLESS VST 205001/8 HYDROSTATIC TRANSAXLE?

Might be a daft question, but how do I fill/ check level of oil?

Plus, so many folk suggest using a synthetic oil in it!

Do I drain (how) or top up if need and how do I know the level??

I appreciate your help there.
Where can I get parts for Peerless axles, any idea?
Thanks

There are 2 different reservoirs in the transmission. The largest is behind the removable steel plate and the rubber bellows. A rebuild kit will typically contain a replacement bellows and 2 quarts of oil. Remove the old bellows and carefully drain all of the old oil. With the front of the transmission facing down, fill it with Tecumseh synthetic transmission fluid until it reaches the bottom of the bellows shaft/tube. Just under 1 and 1/2 quarts. Install the new bellows and and secure it.
There is a second "drive" reservior to the right. It should have a rubber plug. Remove the plug, drain the old oil, fill it with new oil until you have 1/4 to 3/8 inch of oil in the pan. Check with a clean stick. It won't take much oil. Reinstall the plug and you are done.
