How do I fix the fan control on a ford focus 2000?

The fan control would only work when I had it on the highest speed. lately it will only work once in a while on any speed. How can I fix this as inexpensively as possible.

Just had this problem with my daughters 02 focus . After doing a google search found out that this is a common problem.Replaced the fan resistor that controls the speed. Cost me about $22 including shipping . Remove glovebox by removing 3 screws below the door then open glovebox door and pull out. You will see resistor assy to left of fan motor housing . 1 screw holds it in place . Remove screw and unplug wires. Clogged cabin air filter or bad fan motor can cause resistor to fail according to my search info or just a bad resistor.

Hi,
Look at the connector on the fan motor itself, you will probably find that its corroded. Give the connections a good clean with wet and dry, and put vaseline around the connection once you've reconnected it.
Cheers now
