How can i fix my ford focus (1.8 zetec) 1999 engine management problem?

On almost every journey i make now the speedometer drops to zero while i'm driving and stays there for longer periods of time. If i stop the car the engine cuts out. It will restart and will tick over but if the problem is still there, once i've started driving again and then come to a stop for traffic lights (for example) the car will cut out again. Can someone please help me.
Thank you

Hi sounds like you have 2 problems.
The speedo is very common, its the transmission speed sensor.
The idling problem is usually the idle control valve.
