The wash and drying lights on my DWF40 dishwasher won't stop flashing?

When i put the dishwasher on for a cycle it goes through the Pre-wash stage then stops and the lights start to flash continuously. Can you help

I am having exactly the same problem with my hotpoint FDW20. Pls let me know if you have any luck with this problem as it driving me mad and is probably something very simple and not worth calling an engineer out for!
