Don't worry about your throttle cable, mine has been broken for a year, just turn your idle up and it runs just fine. You'll need to manually feather it to get it started, but that is easily done.

Mine was having the same problem and I just fixed it, by discovering a crack in the fuel line where it enters the fuel tank. There is also a fuel filter at the end of the fuel line at the bottom of the tank. I have been fighting this for a month. Good luck!

Do you want to sell it for parts?
My throttle cable is broken on my 2816.
It appears that McCulloch is no longer in business.
So parts are at a preimum.

Any way you need to clean your air cleaner it sounds to me that your not getting enough air to compleate the combustion cycle.

Cheers
