I need an answer to the same question Mary asked. My machine is empty but the filter needs cleaning. The kick board at the bottom reveals a red plastic cap with nothing behind. Where is the filter on a Hotpoint WT471? Any help please?

Helen, June 2012
hi i have hotpoint wt741 i love this machine it has never left me down until now it wont empty and flashing the f-05 from reading the above helpful remarks i understand this is due to a filter blockage but when i took the kick board off they was a red plastic cover when i removed the red cover the filter was not there could you please tell me where and how i can find the filter on this model thank you would really like a quick answer if possible as my washing is piling up with 4 of a family once again i hope you can help me thank you mary

How the hell do I get the filter cap off?? Without breaking my thumbs, does it have a safety catch on it?

Teena, April 2012
I do not know where the filter is on my hotpoint and when i take of the front kick panel it does not reveal any part i can remove or clean.

Thank you for all these comments, I was able to fix my machine and feel very proud of myself!
Emptied the machine as suggested by using a bucket and feeding the hose into it. managed to unscrew the filter after a bit of a struggle and coins and black gunge came out . Cleaned it all up and machine now works. Fantastic!

Brilliant!! Just solved the problem, though if you turn off machine and then on again and reset the dial to drain it does this without having to mess about with draining with a pipe etc, or it did with me!

Paul's advice from June 07:

(if the machine is still full, move the waste pipe lower than the drum into a bucket or pan this will empty th water and the door should release. then unscrew the filter from the front right of the machine, mine was difficult to unscrew as it had a small drill in from my overalls and this made it difficult to unscrew, however after much wiggling it came off and i could remove the drill, then it worked fine. make sure you try this first as its a 40 quid fee if the engineer does it)

...worked a treat. Emptied the drum by lowering the outlet pipe, then unscrewed filter underneath plastic cover, then removed offending blockage, put all back together, and it works nicely again!

Thanks, saved me £40 too :-)

f-05 is a blockage in the filter just had this problem myself on my hotpoint ultima washing machine solved the problem by unscrewing the filter from the front of the machine was full of coins hair clips and various other things that had accumalated over time shame i didnt now how to drain the drum has ended up with a flood that knackerd the laminate flooring but washer works fine.

drain the drum by moving the drain pipe into a bucket or washing up bowl. take off front panel at the bottom, I managed to break a plastic tab but it still fits back on. Unscrew filter and remove whatever is jammed in there. our was had a electronic burning smell which turned out to be the pump trying to empty the drum.

works fine now...

rang hotpoint support, code f-05 is a blockage in the filter, if the machine is still full, move the waste pipe lower than the drum into a bucket or pan this will empty th water and the door should release. then unscrew the filter from the front right of the machine, mine was difficult to unscrew as it had a small drill in from my overalls and this made it difficult to unscrew, however after much wiggling it came off and i could remove the drill, then it worked fine. make sure you try this first as its a 40 quid fee if the engineer does it.
