How can I contact Moffat electric oven manufacturers?

The glass oven door exploded with great force scattering glass shards all over the kitchen. The oven was not turned on at this time and luckily no one was in the kitchen and no one was injured
Mr G Bray, May 2007
Same problem as everybody else here. Oven just warming up and then - bang! Glass all over the kitchen floor and cabinets, plus in the saucepan on the hob, so it must have gone with some force. Will get hold of Moffat/Electrolux tomorrow morning.

Mark, September 2013
My oven door exploded in the middle of the night, the glass was all over the kitchen, unable to get a reply on the phone so I am contacting trading standards as serious injury could occur and no one is interested

mr. A Jones, August 2013
The same thing happened to my oven door. it just exploded into pieces. Luckily no one was injured but this is extremely shocking and very unsatisfying for customers.

farah, June 2013
No answer im afraid. Just to say exactly the same thing happened last night to my moffat oven door. I was wearing shorts watching tv, just glad i wasnt in the kitchen when it exploded with one hell of a bang!

I have 16 month old daughter and my Moffat door exploded in middle of the night showering glass everywhere - I dread to think if shed been in her high chair what would have happened I need contact number too please !

Anne, February 2013
Same thing happened to us this evening the flat we are renting we was cooking and after 1hr we was sitting on the sofa and heard a very loud bang and shattering glass. We went to see what it was and the front glass of the Moffat cooker was all over the floor !! And you could hear cracklings like it was still hot and the inner glass was still hot !!

Aron, January 2013
My Moffatt oven door just exploded - spraying hot glass everywhere. This seems to be a common problem.

S Cady, August 2012
Hi, I own a Electrolux EOB303X rotary oven in Malaysia. Today, after about 9 months use, the inner glass of the oven door shattered after only 10 mins of heating some food. I called Electrolux and they said the glass was not covered by its manufacturers warranty! When I mentioned that I have read about similar failures online, they then said they would look into it - but it has yet to be seen what they will do. After reading this blog, I think I will be pursuing this via the consumer tribunal if they respond negatively.

R Rashid, May 2012
I have an old 1970's Moffat double oven with grill, it came with the house, i was thinking of replacing it with a newer Moffat but after reading all these complaints ive changed my mind

kimbal, April 2012
Tha same thing has just happenend to me. Im very annoyed that ive just been told by Electrolux that their could of been a chip or because ive used the wrong cleaning fluid that this would be the cause of the shatter. Thank god nobody was in the kitchen at the time as i have been picking glass out of my wallpaper. Now i am writing a letter to Trading Standards to see if they can help me because Electrolux are not that bothered.

Anna, February 2012
i had the same problem contact electrolux on 0844 561 8923 you get straight through. They will state however they have had no complaints

vicky, November 2011
I was shocked to see so many other people who have had exploding Moffat oven doors. My oven is an MSS 601 W and on 19 August 2011 (after being on for 10 minutes) my husband and I heard a strange noise and found glass all over our kitchen floor and as far as our dinning room. The sicken thing was our dog's crate is opposite the oven and cannot be moved. She herself has had a major operation and we are so grateful she wasn't in her crate at the time. Thankfully the kitchen was empty. Like so many below, Electrolux were only too happy to replace the door for free. I had initially expected a battle. I too have contacted Trading Standards after reading everyone's comments. I feel very uneasy about having a ticking time bomb in my kitchen. It may cost us, but I am thinking of getting a new oven although this one is only 14 months old!

Nikki, August 2011
Bought a moffat oven in 2007. The glass door randomly shattered after about 18 months, and after thinking its just an unexplained rarity contacted the company who sent someone out to replace it. A year later, the exact same thing happened again. The man over the one once again said its a very rare thing, and arranged for it to be replaced. This time it took 51 days before the engineer came and fitted a new one. Yesterday, a year one once again, the glass a THIRD TIME randomly exploded. Its inexcuseable for the company to keep selling/replacing the door to these ovens when something is so obviously wrong and is potentially a huge risk especially with young children and animals in the house! This time it is out of warranty so will be interesting to hear what they have to say about it, but quite obviously we do not just want the panel replaced as its simply a waiting game before the incident happens again. Looking at all the other responses, these products are not safe to be sold and should be recalled immediately.

Liam, August 2011
Just been cooking on a moderate heat (145c)for approx 15 mins and glass door has exploded all over the kitchen. Dread to think what would have happened if my girlfriend or I, or even our cats would have been in front of it! What the hell are Moffat/ Electrolux playing at?? If they're aware of the problem (which judging by this thread has been around for a WHILE) why havent they either recalled the said products from suppliers/retailers or just ceased production?? What will it take to get them to address the problem or at least acknowledge the fault - an old woman getting her face blown off or worse??!! NOT HAPPY!!!

Angry Ben, April 2011
Same thing, 15 month old $2500 electrolux icon single oven, the middle glass (there are 3 of them in the door) exploded during "self-cleaning" cycle. Unbeleivable!!!

Alexander, March 2011
I have had a similar experience. My flat is rented out and the tenants have phoned me to say that their Moffat oven MSS 601 model has exploded showering glass over the kitchen. It was extemely fortun
nate that their small children were not in front of it at the time. I phoned Electrolux on 01582491234 and asked for Customer Care Dept and now Electrolux have offered to replace the broken glass panel free of charge

Roy W, January 2011
Had a phone call from tenants in a house that we rent out - oven door exploded with force shooting glass all over the kitchen. Moments earlier her three year old daughter had been stood by the oven. She was horrified as was I. I know that we have insurance but I would have been devastated if a little girl had been blinded or maimed by an exploding appliance in our house. I mentioned it to a friend who found me this website - so it has happened to lots of people! I am disgusted. I phoned Electrolux - got the same old flim flam as you guys - not a regular occurrence AND, children should not be in the kitchen when the appliance is on! Can you believe that? I pointed out that it would not have mattered where she was if the thing exploded! I have now reported the matter to Trading Standards and Watchdog. In my opinion Moffat ovens are dangerous. Electrolux should organise a product recall. I ask you, how do you define 'rare occurrence?' I told them that I was looking at a chain of about 20 comments and there were other sites too. If just one person could be injured or blinded, they need to do something about it. If I were you, I would phone consumer direct on 08454040506

Paula Elliott, November 2010
had just sat down to eat my dinner with the oven turned off when the oven door exploded in a million pieces i am pregnant and have found out from these posts how dangerous this oven is, i cannot believe this has happened does anyone no where to get the parts i need from. thanks

kaz, October 2010
Same thing happened here, two year old Moffat oven door exploded into a million pieces of glass after our 5 yr old bumped it after losing his balance. Small gash on his hand, could have been much much worse.

Judging by the number of comments below the Moffat cooker door is a ticking time bomb, ready to maim you at any minute...

Andrew, October 2010
i have also had the same problem with my oven door glass exploded all over the kitchen i ring electrolux and was told i had to buy the part for £83.00 inc vat and i could fit it my self as its that simple i would not recommend anyone to purchase this product.

fiona, July 2010
Same thing happenned to me, about 45 minutes after turning it off, spraying glass across an area of about 3 m wide by 2m deep. Answer from Electrolux not so good... too bad, rare occurance, damaged etc... get it repaired... photos to Trading Standards, as obviously not so rare!

Nick Tilley, June 2010
Last night my girlfriend shut the oven on our Moffet MFF601W oven and the glass front shattered all over the kitchen floor. The grill had been on and she was closing it and the thing just crashed to the floor. I called the Electrolux customer service and they were so helpful. I have got an engineer coming to fix the door free of charge next week. 10/10 for Electrolux!

Luke, May 2010
my landlord only 2 months ago fitted a brand new kitchen with white moffat oven, the other day i was cooking dinner and the handle come off in my hand exploding glass just missing my son who was in his bouncer by the kitchen door, i would like a replacement

sammie.b, April 2010
Yet another instance of a shattered oven door last evening. Sat down to dinner and then heard a massive bang and shattered glass all over the floor. Rare occurence doesn't sound too rare from all these posts.

Joan, March 2010
Yes same thing happened to my tennant, the oven door just shattered you can understand that I didnt believe her when the oven was still in working order. I will be ringing electrolux tomorrow my model was also 2007. Hopefully will get a replacement.

Mrs Wright, February 2010
These ovens are dangerous. Our door exploded and shattered into a million pieces leaving glass shards all over the kitchen. This is the second time it has happened, they replaced the first door saying it unusual and as under warranty. But this time I expect a replacement, obviously a manufacturing problem which seems to happen often if going by all these posts. I think this product is substandard and dangerous. I am also contacting the trading standards office.

MS MARTIN, December 2009
SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME. OVEN NOT EVEN SWITCHED ON. I WANT A REPLACEMENT OVEN. DECIDED TO REPORT IT TO TRADING STANDARDS. DANGEROUS, USE WITH CAUTION.

HANNAH DAVIES, December 2009
my oven door just exploded too, just phoned customer services and they told me that its normal for that to happen. when i told them this is wrong they just hung up on me.

colt, December 2009
My Moffat msf610 glass door has also just exploded whilst cooking our dinner just missing me with hot glass, I tried to call on the numbers above but the number has changed to 08445613613, ill give them a call monday,

Nicci c, October 2009
And I thought this only happened to me! The glass on my oven door exploded all over the kitchen floor just after I'd used it. Reading the amount of similar experiences I think i should replace the oven altogether!

Paula, August 2009
The same thing has just happened to me. The oven had not been on all day and fortunatly no one was in the kitchen when the oven door just exploded spreading glass up to 6 feet from the oven. I have phoned Electrolux on 08445613613 and they immediately offered a free replacement and fitting. However, when I explained how dangerous I thought this design fault was, particulary with 2 small children in the house, the customer service rep informed me that children should not be allowed in the kitchen!

John S., July 2009
used my moffat electric oven today & could smell burning rubber from it . when turned off the temperature light was still lit up??? a good few hours later retried the oven and temp light was still illuminated . please tell me why??? only had it 15months

michelle, May 2009
Exactly same thing happened on our Moffat 610W Linea 05 electric oven glass door (on Boxing Day 2008). Oven installed as part of fitted kitchen so really difficult to get at serial number/part ID number. Again, Electrolux agreed with no quibbles to replace part and have it refitted by local service agent at no cost to us - however delivery lead time for part was given as 2 weeks and we heard today that it'll be another 3 weeks. By that time we shall have been with no oven for over 3 months. I suggested that a replacement oven be provided as good PR - I'm surprised that this dangerous design has not been publicised on "Watchdog" or by the Consumers' Association. Today Electrolux told me that the serial number for our oven showed that it was manufactured in 2004 (although we bought it in 2007) - so the company has had 5 years to let suppliers and users know. From other posts here, it seems as though the ovens are still on sale even though this major problem is well known.

GMM, March 2009
Same experience, 3 yr old MSS600W, glass outer blew outwards with extreme force while oven in use; hot glass everywhere including all over the cat! Used number as Lucy's (above) and have promise of free replacement. The person I spoke to at Electrolux said "very unusual" but didn't sound remotely surprised.
No quibble over a replacement.

Mary Hannam, January 2009
Similar problem - door to Moffett MSF 611w fan oven from Wickes (18 months old) shattered without warning. Will call Wickes and try the number listed in previous answers to this website.

John Roberts, September 2008
I have a Moffat oven that was purchased in 1992 ..

MOD. MSM3050T-L3 and I am trying to buy replacement "rings" for the stove top .. they are 7 1/2" and 9 1/2". I have purchased several types from Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Bed, Bath and Beyond and none of them fit this style stove top. HOPEFULLY, you can help me find a place to buy replacement "rings" for this particular model. Thank you!

GM, September 2008
The same happened to my Moffat conventional oven (glass door exploded when cooling down) and I'd had the oven for 16 months. I rang them and they got an engineer out to replace it (free of charge). I'm so impressed with the company - I thought I was in for a battle as you usually are in these cases. Good old Electrolux!

Lucy, August 2008
Contact Electrolux who took over from Moffat.
Tel;08705 950 950
Very pleasant customer care dept:
Problem sorted at no cost to me.

carol tompson, July 2008
I've had exactly the same problem - spontaneous explosion of the outer glass cover. I contacted the no. that Wickes gave me - same as Billy's no. An excellent young man called Mohammed in Customer Service said that it was an extremely rare occurrence, although he seemed to know about the problem instantly. I pointed out that this website recorded a few such incidents so it was hardly rare, but he repeated that it was rare. However, without further question he volunteered to have an engineer call and replace the part at their cost (it's outside the guarantee period). Five minutes later I had a call from the local service centre who made an appointment to replace, and repeated that there would be no charge. Rubbish glass front, brilliant customer service. And they obviously know that this is problem their cookers have - not a rare occurrence.

John, May 2008
We have just had the same issue, the oven door exploded spraying the kitchen with glass. It was not switched on at the time, and there was noone in at the time. Imagine if the oven had been hot and small children were in the room. I will contact Electrolux at the number given by Billy in the post above.

Bryre Butcher, January 2008
i have power to my oven but it will not turn on , we have moved it from one side of the kitchen , a qualified electrician has wired it , but we have no temp light ect

tracy mason, December 2007
Exactly the same thing happened to me last weekend. Phoned Wickes where I bought the oven who told me that they had never heard of such an occurrence and informed me that Moffat was part of the Electrolux group and gave me their number. When I phoned and told them what had happened ,I was immediately offered a replacement door and fitting free of charge. The phone number I was given was 08705 950 950.
