How do i replace the wiper motor, Opel Astra 2002?

The wiper motor for my 02 Opel Astra has recently stopped working (well more it stopped working on intermitent setting). I have been told that this is a common problem with this year Astra. I have been quoted a price of 250euro for the part and another 70euro to fit it!! I have been able to get my hands on a second hand unit for 75euro. I will be picking this up tomorrow.

Firstly, is there anything specific that I should be looking for when I go to pick up the unit, voltage (guessing 12V!!), wattage, rpm etc.

Then, what do I do to install it?

Cheers

Hi,
If you can see the 2nd hand one work before you take it, that's always a bonus.
You have to remove the wiper arms to allow the grill below to come off. This allows you to remove the rain guard above the wiper motor, this is the long plastic bit at the back of the engine bay. Once you have gained access to the motor it's a simple unbolt and replace job. Remember to fix in your mind the position of the wiper linkage (or photo with your phone), this will make it easier to get the same orientation when you replace the motor. If you haven't seen the motor run, it's a good idea to try it before bolting it in. Don't attach the wiper arms until you have run the motor and parked it, otherwise you may find the wipers are trying to wipe your bonnet.
Cheers now
