Fisher Paykel soft touch dishwasher model 918TD?

I have developed a problem with my dishwasher. At the end of a cycle the unit used to beep for approx' 8secs and then cycle was finished. It now beeps continuously. There is a no.1 on the display with no other letters, indicating 1min to go, I thought. In addition, the child lock lock light was on, which wasn't the case at the start of the cycle obviously? Opening the door did not stop the beeping. I pressed the power button and the machine cycled off, the display went out. I heard it it draining water for a bit and that was it. The goods inside were clean but still wet as if it didn't go into drying phase. This occurs through every heavy, normal cycles. I haven't tried any others. I feel the drain is okay because it drains correctly during a cycle and only at the end the problem occurs. In addition, I felt the heating element might be faulty but if this was the case, wouldn't a fault error be indicated? I feel it may be the main board or controller. Could someone help out please and indicate their thoughts. I really don't want to dismantle it and have it out of action and buying parts that are not required. Any help or feedback would be appreciated.
Many thanks kind regards Johnny.

Hi my dishwasher fisher and Paykel 292t turned it self on whilst door was open wide. Nine I'd digital buttons will function and will only turn off at the wall switch. Weird as it hasbeen a great machine. Has it basically had a cardiac arrest dye to due? Bronny

how do I take metal grate off to clean as my powder drys up and doesn't clean dishes?

Thanks for answering this wayyyy back in 2007 Johnny. I have exactly the same symptoms, and too have changed powders and the new one has a rinse aid in it. I think my problem is now solved! Who would have thought 6 years later I could still find this thread and resolve my problem!

Terri your issue is the door handle trigger switch not working properly (your machine thinks the door is open so refuses to do anything) under/behind the handle.

I cant activate my dishwasher (soft touch 918 TD). The red light flash and it is almost as if the door is not closing properly, yet the door is closed. It has been getting progressively worst where you had to really slame the door shut, now it won't work at all. Door sensor maybe? Any ideas?

I just had a tech here to repair our 918TD (major electronic fault) and he showed me the filter that is under the bottom circular stainless steel grill. It was blocked with lime and was almost completely preventing water flow. He says that it was not included in later models so I have (on his advice) discarded it. The machine, which is still operating sounded entirely different on the rinse cycle after that

Hi ... how do I go about removing & replacing a flood switch for Model No 918 TD soft touch dishwasher ... thx

Thank you guys, had the same frustrations, followed your advice and it worked. Yes, we too had changed brands of dish detergent. Yes I was looking for the sensor. Never dreamed that it'd be the "portal on the LHS". Any body know the theory of operation of the sensor???

Just like to thank Marcus on his reply (2007) "Many thanks for that answer. You are right it is a sensor problem. Just a note to clarify - on the F&P Nemo dishwasher there is a round portal about halfway up the left hand side, right at the back of that panel. I had to manually squirt cold water in that portal 2-3 times to clear the sensor error. The diswasher continued to beep throughout me manually rinsing the sensor and only stopped after i had reset the power"

Ours was the similar but more difficult problem where the sensor was clogged in the round port and I had to pour hot water down it 6 times and still didn't reset. Left it for three days to drain through. (note the drain pan was empty) After three days the drain pan was full again and I repowered the dish washer and it drained the remaining water out. Only then did the F1 fault would clear after powering it down. I then ran a clean wash to clean the inside of the dish washer.

Johnny,
Thank you so much, you have really saved some heartache here. We bought a second hand 918TD on the 13/3/08 and this exact problem occurred on the very first run it did (Fast Wash) exactly as you experienced. We also used a 3 in 1 Tablet and upon checking after I read your answer the machine also had rinse aid in it from the previous owner. We thought the drain hose may have been kinked (even though it went through the whole cycle ok) but after checking it was not. So we to will just buy a Powder only and hopefully have the same success. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and save us a lot of grief.
Best wishes Keith

I am answering my own fault, because I found the problem and it may help others. Firstly, the problem occurred each time after a wash cycle. I had assumed it was at the end, because I was never present when it occurred. On this particular day I pulled up a stool and decided to observe the dishwasher during a cycle, to get to the exact symptoms. Each time after a wash it filled with rinse water and that is where the problem occurred. It was a U1 error indicating drain/fill problem. At this point I opened the door and found cold, frothy water. Immediately I realised what the problem was. I had a detergent problem and the excess froth, was causing a sensor error. I drained the machine and ran up to 5 rinse cycles to clear the excess froth. I had found out later my wife had changed detergents. The new detergent had a rinse additive which I believe was re-acting with mine. In addition, she was using tablets, not powder and these particular tablets from this brand were not dissolving completely. This caused excess detergent to mix with the rinse-aid during rinse causing a reaction of froth. I have changed back to my usual powder and have had no further problems.
