How do I know if I broke my digital camera or just the lens?

I dropped my Olympus e-300 the other day and now it seems to be having issues. The camera will take pictures however lens will not focus (14-45mm) when I am zoomed in. I can hear the lens engaging and I see it move, but the picture stays fuzzy and sometimes the button stops allowing full view of the meter but will not allow you to take the picture while in certain modes - including manual - however if you set it for fast action it is just fine.

The image shows up on the LCD, the menu's work and everything else acts as normal.

Sorry can't tell you what's wrong with the camera but I would check your house contents insurance.

They are unlikely to request possesion of the damaged camera on paying out so you could chose to either invest in a new one or repair your existing one. However If you happen to live with your parents then ask them to check their house contents insurance to see if they can claim for you.
