How can I retrieve my broken dipstick . . ?

My plastic dipstick on a Rover 216 has broken off near the top.
I assume you can buy a new dipstick fairly easily??? - but how do you get the old one out?

Srew a sheet metal screw into tube and attach a pair of vice grips on screw and tap out with a hammer
