Samsung American Fridge Freezer & Cold Water Tank?

I have had loads of problems with this American styles fridge freezer. No matter what I do (even had the so called modification from Samsung - just a bit of pipe insulation really) I can't stop the holding tank for cool water from freezing over. Reading on the Net this seems to be a common problem with Samsung models.

I want to know if I can bypass this water tank and still use my ice making facility by somehow turning off the water supply to the fridge but not to the Ice Maker.

Does anyone know enough about Samsungs to advise me.

Just had the same problem and am awaiting a new tank and fan motor. My tank froze as the motor had failed, then the tank sprung a leak.
Anyway, if the tank is frozen up you will still get a water supply to your ice maker. The water supply goes to a double solenoid at the back of the Fridge/Freezer and then splits into one supply pipe for water and another pipe for ice.
If you, or someone you know, are able to, remove the rear bottom alloy cover from the fridge. You will see the solenoids near the bottom right. You can remove the electrical block connector from the water solenoid and just leave the one for the ice. On mine the water solenoid is on the left as you look at it from the back of the fridge. It's easy to check as you can remove the connector then press the water dispenser to make sure you have removed the correct one. When frozen it makes a buzzing sound. Like I said, you will still get ice with a frozen tank even without removing the connector.
Easy as that. Hope that helps.
