How to fix temperature problem with side by side Samsung RS20CCMS?

The temperature control panel shows the freezer working at 19c and the fridge temp on 3c just keeps flashing. The fridge section definitely doesn't feel as cold as it should and a bread loaf at the top of the freezer will not freeze but other items seem ok. I have tried to up the fridge temp but it just goes back to the flashing 3c, I have also pressed the power cool button, but it just keeps flashing 3c. This fridge freezer is otherwise in immaculate condition being less than 3 years old.

Turn off mains. Empty freezer (not fridge). Place food in thermal picnic chest. Remove shelves (not fridge). Remove lower back interior white panel - get busy with a hairdryer on the built up ice. Once melted, dry out interior completely. Replace panel, shelves and food. Drain melted water. Turn on. Hey presto!

We had ours for about six years no problem until easter this year when i first notice that the ice cream had melted didnt think much of it until later i found that the wholr content had defrosted in a panic i phoned a well known company think they do a bit of plumbing as well the bloke turned up first thing he said it was the compressor wasnt too impressed told him i would think about it. Tried another company for second opinion who sent del boy along he told me it was a faulty fan (oh by the way be very carefully of these companies no fix no fee, or no call out charge all they do is loiter in your property for an hour then try to charge you some sort of labour charge). I manage to get hold of a guy by the name of glen from a company called agsrefrigeration spoke to him over the phone first he could describe the fridge from top to bottom even without bein there he even told me where the model no is situated well to cut a long story short he came out and it took him ten minutes to find the fault it wasnt the compressor or fan or god knows what else the door switch mechanism had burst which meant when the doors shut the fan wasnt being activated. Brilliant what a guy if you want a straight talking no bull? engineer and you live in the london or surrey area give them a call im sure they wont mind me putting his number on here 077232019161 or visit their website www.agsrefrigeration.co.uk.

The best way to "fix" these machines, is to pay a bloke with a van, £10 to take it to the nearest tip. I think to call it a "fridge/freezer" is an offence under the trade descriptions act.

I have the same problem. My Samsung RS20CCMS is less than 2-years old. It has stopped working, both the fridge and freezer units. It is a 2nd F/F which is kept in cool conditions in our garage. I powered it down about 16-hours ago and powered up again. It has now started working again. I am obviously concerned that the fault will return for obvious reason. Our Samsung has had very little use being used more as a storage larder from which we stock our main F/F in the kitchen. I find less than 2-years use before breaking down to be totally unacceptable. I believe that there is a new law recently passed which allows consumers to expect 'fair usage' from large domestic appliances (tv's, white goods, etc). I do not think that I am being unreasonable to expect appliances to have a life cycle of at least 5-years. Our Maytag F/F is now nearly 10-years old and still works perfectly. I have just contacted Samsung re- this issue. I do not realy expect them to do much about it except charge me for the call-out and parts involved. I have posted this message on other message boards so that my experience is at least publicised. I will let you know what Samsung say when they respond to my concerns.

The RS20CCMS does have a design flaw, the Samsung Engineers say not but it does as does the RS21, this is a common fault and we have experienced it noe on several occasions. The only thing I can suggest is to write to Watchdog as I have done so, the more people that write in about the RS20CCMS the better and then perhaps something can be done for the poor customers that just keep on paying those Samsung Engineers. For the RS21 customers Samsung will extend the warranty for an extra 5 years, we want this for the RS20CCMS as the problem is exactly the same. Last November 2007 the temp went up in fridge then freezer with the temperature unit flashing, told by an Engineer to defrost for 48 hours to see if problem rectifies did this and it was fine for about 3 weeks then the problem arose again, I lost two lots of food and it was only a few weeks until Christmas when it happened for the second time and everyone was coming to me for Christmas. Got the part replaced and the Engineer explained it was bad luck and not a design flaw, so if it is not a design flaw how come so many people have experienced the same disaster with their RS20 Fridge Freezer, another ten months later and I now have the same problem again, I could scream, Samsung won't get back to me so I guess I have to shell out another fee for the Engineer and the part and wait until it happens again, I am inclined to buy a simple frosty freezer with a reliable make which I will be investigating. Hope this helps, all I can say is call Watchdog or Email them.

Switch off with doors open for 48hrs as this is probably completely iced up,normally indicated by ice build up on bottom of freezer compartment, after defrosting try again if fault reccurs call engineer.
