Why are my Ford Transit 1998 turbo diesel batteries being drained? Fitted two new batteries 2 months ago - was OK. Last 3 days rev counter stopped working and batteries appear to be going flat and not getting charged but alternator light still goes off. I think the rev counter is linked to the alternator - any ideas please?

Had the same problem with my '96 Transit (incl. rev counter dying). New alternator did the trick nicely. Not cheap though, around A$450.

rev counter recieves its signal from the alternator. Sounds like the alternator is faulty. The light won't always come on when there is a fault.
