Have recently inherited an Optima XM system but now wish to make changes to the programmed zone configuration eg change a PIR on Zone 3 to Zone 4. Can I do this in engineers mode without causing an alarm activation?

To change the zone is not done in programming, it is done by hard wiring the sensor to the correct location on the panel.
Why do you need to change the zone ?
If you need to change the way the zone functions , for example, change it to a walk through zone, that can be done in the programming, but you will need the engineer code to do it.
