How can I change the door seal?

Zanussi FL1085 is leaking from the front of the machine. I assume it is the door seal. Is the seal available and is it easy to change? Many thanks

you should not have any trouble buying the seal. zanussi will send you one out in the post. however zanussi door seals are a real pain to fit. i'm an experienced engineer and i dread doing these. remove the outer plastic retaining band, find the spring retaining band at the rear of the seal, you wont see it as it sits in a groove in the seal you will have to feel for it. you may need a small screwdriver to lever it off. pull off the old seal. you will now see why fitting a new one is going to be hard. there is a concrete weight all around the front of the drum which limits the room you have to work. you will have to hook the new seal onto a small lip on the drum all the way round and then refit the spring retainer. trust me this is not easy. do not use washing up liquid or such to help it slide on as when you get over halfway it will slide off !! you can warm the seal in hot water which will help. dont be tempted to stretch the spring retainer to make its easier to put back. this is what keeps it on keeps it watertight. an xtra pair of hands is going to be usefull. watch your knuckles on the weight. have fun !!
