How to prime the water line for our Whirlpool refrigerator dispenser/ice?

We just moved and moved our new fridge with us (about 40 days old), a Whirlpool side-by-side, energy star, that dispenses water and ice. The water line is hooked up and water is definitely on (we checked it), but nothing comes out of the dispenser and no ice is being made. I tried taking out the water filter (to affect pressure), no change. Someone told us that the water line probably needs to be primed due to existing water in the line. I tried sucking on the little hose that comes out of the dispenser but it only got me a little water -- still doesn't dispense water. How do we prime it? Thanks in advance for you help.

Are you sure the water is turned on at the source. Normally there is a small copper line that is spliced into your waterline downstairs. This unit has a small t-handle that you use to open the valve to allow water to flow through. It works just like a tap. Your normal water pressure will then fill the line.
