my vs2000 keeps flashind up msg but dont no how to get to them?

Just got a ntl vs2000 but without instructions and it says 7 msg and a head keeps flashing with a question mark flashing beside it. Could someone please help me to find out how i get to the messages

Yes just press the top left button with tape symbol then press 2. To delete messages as above and then whilst its playing press 0.
