My rear driver side wheel makes a noise, but stops when I use the break?

I was driving and noticed a humming noise coming from my tires, and thought it was the change in road material, but then I noticed the humming, wheering noise was only coming from my drivers side rear tire. However, when I applied my breaks, even lightly... it would stop. Any suggestions of what the cause might be?

Asbestos has not been in pads for donkeys years. However it is not good practice to blow any dust away. One should use a proper brake cleaning fluid. I would not go near a brake disk that has a seized calliper piston even after just a few miles - it will be red hot. If it is a seized piston it is better to let some one who knows what they are doing fix is.

if its a disc brake, the pad may not be retracting fully rubbing against the disc. If this is the case the wheel will be hot to the touch after driving a few miles(compare to the temperature of the wheel on the other side to gauge if there is a real difference). cleaning the caliper should fix the problem. As asbestos may be in the pads i would seek qualified help at a garage
