How can I fix my Peugeot 206?

My 206 keeps cutting out everytime I break and also the Speedometer is not working. There is no problem with oil and the car starts with no problems. The garage has said it will cost £50 just to diagnose the problem. Any suggestions?

Cant see how the head gasket will also stop the speedo working?

Its a speed sensor failure thats causing it to cut out.

Fix the speedo & the cutting out problem will fix itself.

Take it to a Peugeot dealer, they have loads of expirence of 206s cutting out.

It sounds like the head gasket. Expensive problem. Open the oil filler cap and look inside if this is the problem there will be water mixing with the oil giving it a frothy appearance

What gearbox sensor are you talking about?

On my multiplexed 2003 Pug 206 with the TU3 lump & MA gearbox the speedo is fed information from the front left ABS sensor, My 206 has no gearbox speed sensor as it uses the information from the ABS sensor to work the speedo & engine crank sensor to work out the engine speed & how much to adjust the idle speed by when slowing down / changing gear.

there is an eletric sencer that goes to gear box check this is not loose if it is it can make all eletrics go hay wire and make it look like its over heeting witch sends all the other sencers wrong and will make it cut out cos its telling the ecu unit to cut out hope this helps

Hi

Have the speedo problem looked at / fixed & you will most likely find the cutting out problem will be fixed at the same time.

If the car doesn't know its actually driving along the road then the ECU cant raise the idle speed to stop the engine cutting out as you slow down.

Either the speed sensor on the gearbox or if its a later multiplexed & ABS equipped 206 the speedo runs off the ABS sensor on the left front wheel.

What year is this 206, what engine size & fuel type & also does it have ABS brakes fitted?
