i was driving along the road when my escort 1.8 si jus cut out the power lights and stereo and even the hazard lights cut out. i have just had new battery so its not that and it had been running before help does anyone know?
its an r reg any ideas?

sound like an electrical short! this happened to me with an alternator make sure that the obvious is not happening!

no positive leads and touching bare metal as the chassis is negative

start by checking the battery and then start checking alternator then have a look round the starter as these use high current.

id then start looking for any burns in wires indicating a short within a wire and check fuses
