Mark Scotts answer to the problem is simple to do you dont even have to take anything apart just bend out the spring and put a pin nail across the gap !!!!

Great solution from Mark Scott - works a treat. Took forever to get it back together though! Not one for the cack-handed.
Nick Sharrock, December 2010
david c is correct. What I did was to insert a metal piece across the plastic that the spring sits on and that has worked great and will last as it will not break like the plastic.

I have the exact same problem! Is it a fault with the model perhaps?
Eleanor Rushbury, November 2008
I have exactly the same problem.....looks like it is a buy a new one but who makes this stuff?
Peter McCormack, June 2008
For anyone else who stumbles across this:
the door latch isn't the problem per se, it's the plastic frame of the door. One weak part of the door is meant to hold the spring of the door latch taught, and this will bend and brake given enough time. You need to get the whole white part of the door replaced. Don't know where to get this yet - still searching
