Combi boiler question?

Will any boiler problems arise from shutting off the main water supply in order to do other work?

Depends on which combi you have. If it is one that has a seperate heat exchanger for the hot water then no. If it has an integral heat exchanger in the main heat exchanger then you should not run the boiler for heating while the cold water is off.
