Simpson Minimax - Dryer getting hot and vent not blowing air?

My clothes dryer is getting quite hot and there doesn't seem to be any air blowing out of the vent.

I'm assuming something has come loose inside, maybe the hose to the vent? I'm going to pull it apart in the next day or two and have a look but was wondering if anyone has any advice or ideas on what to look for or watchout for?

I've never pulled a dryer apart before but I'm assuming it can't be that difficult, It's probably a stupid question but I'm assuming if it's all unplugged it should be pretty safe to tinker with it? It's pretty old and for the cost of getting someone out to look at it I could just buy a new one, so I figure I can't really go too wrong.

Thanks in advance

simpson minimax 10
belt on drum cant seem to pick up slack
how do i get tension to work
which way is it mounted behind motor

The drum rolls OK but the heat cuts out after about 5-10 minutes suggesting that there is a timer problem with my Simpson Minimax clothes dryer.

Can a get a replacement part? How to install it?

Thanks guys, it was the fan belt that had snapped

Doug, July 2007
The belt driving the exhaust is probably broken. If little to no air is coming out thats probaby it.

Heya Doug, the problem may be the fan belt. On the back of the dryer, there is a long plastic enclosure that can be taken off with one screw. Inside this, there is a belt that goes from the motor to the fan and yours is very likely broken. They become brittle over time, but it shouldn't be too difficult to find a replacement belt and save the dryer.

Hope that helps.

Doug,if you take the plastic cover off on the back of the dryer.there are 2 screws or if its an earlier model 1 screw you will most likely find the fan belt is broken, thats normally the problem with simpson dryers
