ferroli modena 80 e blowing fuses and no power to fan?

I have a 5 year old ferroli modena 80 e combi boiler and it recently stopped working. Checked the fuse on the pcb and it had blown, replaced the fuse and the power led now lights but as soon as you call for ch or dhw the fuse will blow again. Also the fan is not turning and there is no voltage going to the fan from the pcb, any ideas as to the problem.

Hello Garry,

This is just a friendly email as I have looked at your replies at this url http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=77702 , I hope you dont mind me contacting you but I have had the same problems as this and wanted some advice if possible.

What happened my boiler just stopped working, because what should happen when we put the water on the fan kicks in and then allows us to spark up the electros and get the gas on so we got heating and hot water. That said I have been without any heating or water for a couple of weeks and myself & family are freezing todeath here. I had a so called corgi call but in all honesty he just did not want to no as he said he was on a massive job, but did say its more than likley my PCB board gone as these Ferrolli Optima 701 - 901 are rubbish and they are known for it. Well I did take his word for this and managed to locate a brand new one which cost me £140 instead of £240 the corect retail cost of these. Its easy enough there is just two screws to take out and some spade connectors to pull off, its really easy to do as all details are on the pcb, for eg x5 connectors just come off old one and goes straight on to x5 on the new pcb, and so on. Right I done this but guess what, the fuse is blowing all the time, so what I think I have done now where I did in all honesty put a higher amp fuse in it to re-try, is possibly blow the brand new pcb board. Right this brings me to your details and why I am emailing you, cos what I have done Garry is take the new pcb back off and put the old one back on, and guess what with the new correct amp fuses used every time I put it on it now starts to re-light the led`s but back to begging its blowing them, but when pump lead is pulled off they then come on and stay on for approx 10 secs, and the fuse dont blow.

That said Garry would this mean it is the pump or could it be the fan.??? This is why I have emailed you and would be very greatfull if you could email me straight back with any help regarding same.

Thank You
Phillip

forgot to add that the boiler doesnt even light,no pilot light and fan does not turn. Tried disconnecting the pump and turn on the hot water tap and the fuse doesnt blow but led 4 now flashes when doing this. Still no activity from the boiler i.e no pilot, fan movement etc just the mains led lit up. Since doing what Gary suggested the fuse no longer blows.

are you able to disconnect the lead to the pump, this is the most likely cause of the fuse blowing, if you disconnect this lead and call for hw and the fuse does not blow then i would suggest you need a new pump.
