How can I fix my Craftsman Lawn Tractor Model #917.255520?

The deck on the mower appears to be too low. Even on the #6 highest level, the deck is still only about 1" above ground level. On a flat surface(driveway) the deck contacts the ground at about the #3 mid level. I can only cut at the highest point. Anything lower or closer to the ground and the blades want to lock up. The mower cuts unevenly, and the vacuum system does not work properly. I read the owners manual about the adjustments and leveling the deck, and I have leveled the deck. However, it appears to me that the entire deck either needs to be raised or the lift lever needs some type of adjustment. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

how do I get the rear end apart to put new snap ring on axel

Yes I have the same rider that had this problem. Heres what I did and it worked. With the deck height lever I put it on the #1 position. At the rear of deck there are 2-brackets that are connected to the height adjuster. Loosen the nuts and run them up. on a flat surface with a tape measure take the blades up 2inches. tighten nuts and your good to go. It may look like its not level because the back will raise up. but the front of deck will be level. and at #2-3-4-5-6 it will give proper height. Hope it works out for you as it did for me.

I have this same problem with mine too! I thought I was the only one. I also researched the owner's manual. No help. I was given the mower from my dad. I don't know how he put up with it. Is it a bad design from the factory? There should be a recall!
