Mine went too, the belt was fine, I opened it up (I am experienced). I was able to turn it on and turn the drum, then it would roll. I spotted a capcitor near the motor, I think maybe it helps it overcome the initial inertia/force needed to start spinning.
Once it stops and trys to go into return action it stops working again and just makes noise.
Also in the heater section there are 2 safety overheat sensors, since mine stopped turning no air was blowing in and one of these has triggered, there is no manual reset, it must be replaced.
