my aeg competence b1180-4 keeps cutting out?

my oven cuts out when it reaches temperature can you tell what the fault is and how to fix this? i have opened the top cover and noticed a blue part with blue and white wires to it this seems to be scorched has this something to do with it not working properly?

Thanks to Mike Phillips' answer there I ordered the part for my 1180-1 oven. If you are reasonably comfortable messing around with appliances then this isn't a difficult job replacing it yourself; just make sure that you DISCONNECT THE OVEN FROM THE ELECTRICITY FIRST!

Tip: once you have removed the cover from the oven you will see the old (probably scorched) part. Remove one wire at a time, replacing it immediately with a wire of the same colour from the new part. This way you won't forget which colour wire goes on which electrical connector. There are 2 x white wires and 2 x blue wires (it doesn't seem to matter which of the two wires you use, so long as you get the colour right).

Remember to tuck the fan control back under the cable tie, or (if you've already cut it), put a new one in. Don't use the oven either with it or the cables dangling loose.

I'm not an electrician but I'm reasonably competent with a screwdriver; for me it wasn't a difficult job and I suspect many people would be fine with it as well.

Part Number is - 8996619267611 - AEG & Electrolux Oven Cooling Fan Control
Available from
http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk

It is VITAL you switch off the Cooker Switch or unplug it if it connects to a 13 amp plug before fitting.

We have just developed this fault after owning the oven for just two and a half years! Rather Poor! Did you get it fixed and if so is it a simple task as I am no repair man, would usually get an engineer out to fix it!!

I just got back from Hols so only just seen your response.
I have opened oven housing and did see see the scorched wire and thought this to be the fault but didn't know it's name. Haven't checked the cooling fan area. Will check out stockists in area on Monday. Cheers.

Hi, Back again. Have done a bit of research and spoken to AEG who inform me it is the Thermal Cut Out. This is priced at twenty two pounds and can be obtained from your nearest AEG stockist, a list of which is on their website. If you are fitting it yourself apparently it is next to the cooling fan! I hope this helps. Let me know how you get on. I am collecting mine tomorrow and hopefully my husband will fit it over the weekend.

Hi, Mine keeps doing the same and I am fscinated to know if you find out anything. It is ok for long periods if under 160 but anything over and it will only go for 20 mins then stop. It comes on again after about 20 mins, is yours the same???? Also does exactly the same with the grill!!!
