The front panel on the Maytag LAT9806GGE, which must be a similar machine, comes off really easily. It is held on by 2 spring clips at the top under the lid and also some studs at the lower bottom sides. There is also a phlange which slides and sits under the bottom of the machine as the front slides back into position when replacing it. To release the front, you should use a large screwdriver and insert the blade end into the join and rotate. You should then be able to prise it apart gently releasing the bottom 2 studs. By keeping the bottom held away from the machine, you should then be able to release the 2 spring clips at the top. I found all this rather easy, it is getting the spring clips back on that I am now having the problem with!! However, I will find a way no doubt.
