Maytag LAT8600AAL - How to open it up?

First off, a complaint: www.Maytag.com doesn't recognize this as one of theirs, so there's no manual available.....
My washers stops, but will start again if I hit it. We've graduated to a 3# hammer (thru a block of wood), and I'd like to open it up and find the loose wire/connection/whatever and tighten it down or replace it as needed.
However, I can't figure out how to open it. I thought that the top would either pry up, or slide forward/back a little and then pry up, but any more force will damage things.

The front panel on the Maytag LAT9806GGE, which must be a similar machine, comes off really easily. It is held on by 2 spring clips at the top under the lid and also some studs at the lower bottom sides. There is also a phlange which slides and sits under the bottom of the machine as the front slides back into position when replacing it. To release the front, you should use a large screwdriver and insert the blade end into the join and rotate. You should then be able to prise it apart gently releasing the bottom 2 studs. By keeping the bottom held away from the machine, you should then be able to release the 2 spring clips at the top. I found all this rather easy, it is getting the spring clips back on that I am now having the problem with!! However, I will find a way no doubt.

Never mind - two small screws towards the bottom of the front panel allow it to come off, giving access to the innards. Apparently the top doesn't come off, on this model.
