I think I need a new battery for Veritas R8?

My alarm (Veritas R8) went off for no reason. I was in the house at the time-so alarm was not on. I set the code to stop it, now its making a 'clicking' noise-outside only. I can not reset the alarm!!! The 'clicking' noise stopped-independently- now here's the silly girlie question (ahem) how do I know if it needs a new battery? Installed by previous house owners, who left no manual, approx 1996

If you turn off the mains supply the alarm should carry on running on the battery for seceral hours. If it dies straight away or the lights go dim then the battery is no good. They are a available at any good electrical retailer or Maplins electronics. Check size and rateing on the old one and look on the net. A good tip is to put the date on the new one with a felt tip when you fit it and replace it after about 3 years.

Battery should be replaced every 3 years, they dont last for ever and a faulty or dead battery could cause damage to the main PCB components.
If you would like a copy of the manual, leave your email address here and I will send you one in pdf format.
