transit blower not working 1997 p reg 180d?

where is the resistor fitted on this van as i would like to replace this before removing motor etc, fan does not work at all and fuse is ok.
Is this a common fault ? or could it be the switch ?

The resistor only controls speeds 1 and 2, but often when it goes melts the switch causing you to lose speed 3.
