I had the same happen to me & got the problem resolved.
The replacement Solenoid assembly came as a complete moulded unit (pipe assembly from lead-in, etc)...not separate bits as was on my shower, although I have had this a few years now, so maybe the newer G8000S units are slighltly different.
To continue, I also had to disconnect the Main Water supply pipe (Brass Joint),going to the Unit in order to get the Solenoid assembly removed. The small bakelite lead-in pipe was stuck fast to my faulty solenoid, but a bit of wriggling up/down, etc, managed to separate it...be careful..you need this part!
It was just a matter of putting all the parts back together, and thankfully it was a success.

Hi Craig,
Same fault, and as cmg, bought solenoid from Shower Doctor, similar price, however, I'm going to fit it later today, if any pitfalls I'll post, but I think cmg has covered it ok.
Power Isolated, Isolate water supply,Put plug in shower tray outlet (dropped screws???), and don't forget the 'O' rings.

I've got a similar problem, but the shower isn't even making any sound. Can anyone confirm a new solenoid will fix my problem?

Thanks cmg

I had the exact problem and found a solution you need a solenoid. I purchased mine from The Power and Shower Shop 01827 304888 £17.46 and fitted it myself. I am not a plumber so in laymans terms, turn off water and power. Undo all the screws to the solenoid and those surrounding plus the water feed. This will allow sufficient movement to replace the solenoid and don't forget the washers - most important.
