have a leak coming out from under bath leaking plug hole?

I have just had to highten my bath slightly, and whilst doing so some type of putty producty has fallen out from around the underside of the plug hole and water is now dripping through. what is the best way to stop this,

no sorry, best way is to renew the combined waste overflow (ask at any plumbers Merchants ) best to renew will prob only leak again if you try to repair
