how can I fix my Ford Ka rear lights?

The rear tail lights are not working on Ford Ka2 1998 S reg.
I have changed bulbs and checked all fuses.

Brake lights, indicator and reverse light are OK.

I may be wrong but on the older KA's they dont have a solid wire running to the boot but connectors look for gold connectors (may now be green) round the rim of the boot (think they are at the top but not sure) and clean them
