DISCONNECT THE POWER AT THE PLUG. To avoid the problem of completely removing the cabinet to get at the spring, attack it via the kick plate. Lie the machine on its side and undo the two vertical screws holding the plate in position. Then remove two screws holding the sides of the cabinet to the frame and remove the plate. It should now be obvious where the broken spring was/should be and replacing it is straightforward. Do not forget to fit the plastic anti squeaking grommet where the spring is attached to the hinge. A spot of grease on the lower end of the spring where it contacts the frame should avoid too many SPRONGs. Refit the kick plate, stand the machine up and mop up all the water which has flowed out of an empty dishwasher all over the floor before your wife goes butcher's hook about it. Turn on the taps and power and Bob's your uncle.
