How can I adjust mondeo headlights for european driving?

I have a 2003 Mondeo Ghia X with Xenon headlights.
I need to use the automatic alignment to allow me to drive it in France. How is this done please?

Update: don't bother removing the xenon electronic module, there's nothing behind it!

The electrical multiconnectors are pretty stiff to separate. Use a small screwdriver to press in the catch.

You need to remove the black cover from the rear of the headlamp to access the lever. Two Torx 15 screws hold this in place.

Move the silver lever to the opposite position in which you find it. Don't force it! If it doesn't move, try it in the opposite direction.

If it's any help, I have some photos of the interior of the headlamp. Drop me a mail if these are any use to steve@stevecrang.demon.net

Hi

I haven't yet done this on my 2006 Mondeo, but this should help...

1. Remove the front grille by twisting the small plastic retainers in each top corner and unsnapping the grille from the body work. Be careful as the plastic will break if you use too much force.

2. On each headlamp, look for the retainers (two 4-inch long vertical strips of metal with about the top bit bent over into a right-angle facing the front of the car). Pull these upwards and out, and then lift the headlamp clear of the car. They might be a bit stiff, so WD40 at the ready!

3. Remove the screws that hold the xenon bulb and its electronic module in the headlamp, and remove the unit from the headlamp. Move the headlamp unit clear of the car.

4. Inside the headlamp is a silver colour lever. Move this lever to the opposite position to which you find it in. (I have heard that the lever should be moved to the "up" position, but clearly this can't be done if the lever is already in the "up" position!)

5. Follow this in reverse to reassemble the unit.

6. Repeat for the other headlamp

7. Test after adjustment to ensure that the operation has been successful

It's good to know how to do this in any case as you could be asked by the French Police to change a defective bulb at the roadside, and risk a fine if you can't!

Bonnes vacances!
