Start you engine and fast idel it to 2000 revs for about 5-10min. This should heat up the engine which then heats up the coolant. The coolant gets too hot and the thermostate should open up allowing the hot water to be pumped through the rad....which then turns on the rad fan. If it dosn't then the rad fan switch is duff, repalce, costs about a £5. Unscrew the old fan switch and repalce with new. Make sure the water is cold or you'll burn yourself. Do it quick enough and you only need to top up the coolant in the tank.
